Job summary

Shadow Hills Pet Clinic, part of AmeriVet Veterinary Partners, in Sun Valley, CA, seeks an experienced part-time veterinary assistant to join a fast-paced, community-focused hospital. The role involves rooming patients, assisting in surgery, monitoring anesthesia, drawing blood, and handling radiology and lab tasks with a positive team spirit.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of prior veterinary experience in a clinical setting.
• Surgical assisting experience.
• Obtaining accurate and thorough medical histories.
• TPR (temperature/ pulse/ respiration).
• Assisting doctor and other staff with restraint.
• Blood draws (cephalic, saphenous, jugular).
• Placing IV catheters.
• Digital radiology including positioning.
• Dentistry (digital x-rays, scaling, polishing).
• Anesthesia (induction, intubation, monitoring, aseptic technique).
• Laboratory skills (ear and fecal cytology; HM5; VetScan; Sedivue).
• Excellent client communication & education.

Responsibilities

• Room patients for examination and procedures.
• Assist in surgery and monitor anesthesia with care.
• Support surgical recovery of patients.
• Draw blood and run basic lab tests.
• Place IV catheters and manage feline/canine restraint.
• Operate digital radiology equipment and position patients accordingly.
• Assist with dentistry including x-rays, scaling and polishing.
• Communicate effectively with clients and educate them.

Shadow Hills Pet Clinic is looking for an experienced Part Time veterinary assistant. Shadow Hills Pet Clinic is a long-standing general practice hospital with deep ties to the community, located in beautiful Sun Valley, California. Our goal is to provide compassionate and quality medicine while striving to make an impact in our community and treat our patients/clients like family.

The ideal candidate would be compassionate towards our patients and clients. Be confident in rooming patients, assisting in surgery, monitoring surgery patients, surgical recovery, drawing blood and running bloodwork, placing IV catheters, knowledge of x-ray and proper positioning, experience with in-clinic laboratory equipment, comfortable with proper animal handling and restraint, understanding the importance of client education and is a positive and supportive team player. A positive and motivating attitude is a must.
