Job summary

Nashville Veterinary Specialists in Nashville, TN is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Overnight ICU Team. You will provide hands-on patient care for ICU animals, support the veterinary medical team, and help maintain high standards of patient monitoring and safety.

The role offers a full-time, three-shift week with 6:00 PM–6:00 AM hours and an attractive compensation package including $20–$29 per hour, plus $4.50 shift/weekend differentials and a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant, preferably in emergency medicine.
• Strong foundational knowledge of veterinary medicine, including triage, disease processes, pharmacology, restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, anesthesia, laboratory equipment, and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow patient care instructions.
• Excellent communication skills with both clients and veterinary team members.
• Ability to adapt to individual patient needs and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
• Eagerness to continue learning and developing veterinary skills.
• Ability to safely lift and carry animals weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to handle dogs weighing up to 150 pounds.
• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on patient care and support the veterinary medical team in the ICU.
• Assist with patient monitoring, treatments, diagnostics, restraint, and daily nursing care.
• Support Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians with the care of hospitalized and critical patients.
• Assist with patient care procedures based on training and experience.
• Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked patient care areas.
• Follow hospital protocols for patient safety, sanitation, and infection control.
• Accurately document patient care and communicate observations to the medical team.
• Provide compassionate and professional client communication when appropriate.
• Adapt to the changing needs of individual patients in a fast-paced ICU environment.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative overnight hospital culture.
