Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI is hiring a Part Time Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician to join our ophthalmology team. You will assist with diagnostic testing, imaging, and surgeries, while providing compassionate patient care.

You will support anesthesia and patient monitoring, and educate clients about ocular disease and treatment options. We value teamwork, ongoing learning, and high standards of care.

Qualifications

• Ophthalmic diagnostic testing experience.
• Ability to assist in ocular surgeries and outpatient procedures.
• Experience with sedation/anaesthesia management.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests and assist with ocular exams.
• Support advanced ophthalmic testing and imaging.
• Set up and assist with outpatient and complex ophthalmic surgeries.
• Manage anesthesia procedures or assist anesthesia staff as needed.
• Educate clients about their pet's ocular disease and care.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Part Time Veterinary Technician to join our Ophthalmology team!

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals.

As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam

• Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)

• Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries

• Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)

• Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery

• For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)

• Anesthesia training is available with help or our anesthesia specialist

• Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies

• Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet's ocular disease and care
