Job summary

Main Street Animal Clinic in Oakland, TN is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for clients and patients throughout hospital care. This full-time role offers a 5/8 schedule (Mon–Fri with rotating Saturdays) and an hourly wage of $18–$21, with benefits including health insurance and a 401(k) plan.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel, or related role preferred
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats of varying sizes
• Ability to assist with exams, treatments, surgery, radiology, and outpatient procedures
• Experience with phlebotomy, SQ injections, laboratory sample collection, and inpatient care
• Obtain patient histories, weights, vital signs, and maintain accurate medical records
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills with teamwork and patient care

Responsibilities

• Support efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
• Assist veterinarians during exams, treatments, surgery, and dentistry
• Provide safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during care
• Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
• Review treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
• Build positive client relationships through education and service
• Keep exam rooms and treatment spaces clean, organized, and prepared
