Job summary

Village Veterinary Clinic in Lompoc, CA is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to support clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care. You will assist with exams, surgeries, and routine appointments for dogs, cats, pocket pets, and exotics, while building strong client relationships through education and compassionate care.

This full-time role offers a 5/8 schedule, Monday–Friday, with pay between $20 and $24 per hour plus benefits.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of recent experience in a veterinary assistant or related role.
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint.
• Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and patient care principles.
• Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining weights/vital signs.
• Venipuncture and administering injections; radiology technique.
• In-house and reference laboratory processing; dependability and strong work ethic.
• Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and restrain patients safely.

Responsibilities

• Support efficient exam room, outpatient and surgical workflows.
• Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments and procedures.
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
• Review treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately.
• Build positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service.
• Maintain clean, organized exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces.
