Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for our 24/7 Emergency Hospital in Vancouver, WA. This swing/overnight role offers hourly pay with differential for overnight and weekend shifts, and requires active on-call rotation.

You will support licensed technicians and veterinarians in a fast-paced emergency environment, handle radiographs, run labs, and help with client communication and patient discharges. A minimum two years in veterinary medicine plus a valid license is needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of experience in veterinary medicine (ER preferred).
• Must obtain a Veterinary Medication Clerk License upon hire and keep active.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of patient handling and restraint.
• Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed technicians and veterinarians with patient care.
• Assist with radiographic procedures.
• Prepare and run lab work.
• Obtain accurate patient histories and maintain records.
• Client communication and patient discharges.
• Restrain patients for IV catheters and exams.
• Initiate and monitor fluid therapy.
• Provide nursing care and support during emergencies.

Veterinary Assistant - Emergency (Swing / Overnight)

$20-$24/hr + $2/hr Overnight Differential (6pm-6tam) + $2/hr Weekend Differential (Satu-Sun) Full-time opportunity in Vancouver, WA

Schedule: Swing / Overnight shift, 24/7 Emergency Hospital. Rotating holiday shifts and participation in the on-call rotation are required.

We're a busy 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital just outside Portland, OR, looking for a skilled LVT to join our overnight emergency team. If high-acuity cases and a fast-moving treatment floor are where you do your best work, this role is built for you.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Manage and provide for the patient’s needs in the emergency department by assisting licensed technicians and veterinarians with patient care.
• Assist technicians with radiographic procedures.
• Prepare and run lab work.
• Obtaining accurate patient histories.
• Client communication
• Accurate record-keeping.
• Patient discharges.
• Restraint of patients for IV catheters, physical examinations, and minor procedures.
• Complete treatments of patients as assigned in a timely manner.
• Provide exceptional nursing care.
• Fill pre-printed prescriptions if a Med Clerk License is held.
• Basic drug calculations.
• Initiation of fluid therapy.
• Patient care of stable patients in isolation.
• All employees will be scheduled and expected to work rotating holiday shifts in the emergency and critical care departments.
• All employees are required to participate in the on-call rotation as needed. Shifts are subject to revisions and changes at the discretion of the hospital.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
• Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.

What You Bring

• Must have a minimum of two years of experience in veterinary medicine. ER preferred.
• Must be able to obtain a Veterinary Medication Clerks License upon hire and keep active throughout the entirety of employment
• Must have a valid high school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of patient handling and restraint.
• Excellent communication skills. Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations.
• Ability to act as a team player, adhering to all core values of the hospital.
