Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health in Vancouver, WA operates a 24/7 emergency hospital near Portland, OR and is seeking a Veterinary Assistant - Emergency (Overnight) to join the team. The role supports licensed technicians and veterinarians in a high‑acuity, fast‑paced environment.

You will perform nursing care, assist with radiography and lab work, collect histories, and communicate with clients while maintaining accurate records.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years experience in veterinary medicine.
• ER experience preferred.
• Excellent communication skills and team orientation.
• Must be able to obtain Veterinary Medication Clerks License upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed technicians and veterinarians with patient care in the emergency department.
• Assist technicians with radiographic procedures.
• Prepare and run lab work.
• Obtain accurate patient histories and maintain records.
• Communicate with clients and document interactions.
• Discharge patients and assist with treatments as assigned.
• Perform IV catheter restraints and basic drug calculations.
• Initiate fluid therapy and monitor patient stability.
• Participate in rotating holiday shifts and on-call rotation.

Veterinary Assistant - Emergency (Overnight)

$20-$24/hr + $2/hr Overnight Differential (6pm-6tam) + $2/hr Weekend Differential (Satu-Sun)

Full-time opportunity in Vancouver, WA

Schedule: Overnight shift, 24/7 Emergency Hospital. Rotating holiday shifts and participation in the on-call rotation are required.

We’re a busy 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital just outside Portland, OR, looking for a skilled LVT to join our overnight emergency team. If high-acuity cases and a fast-moving treatment floor are where you do your best work, this role is built for you.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Manage and provide for the patient’s needs in the emergency department by assisting licensed technicians and veterinarians with patient care.
• Assist technicians with radiographic procedures.
• Prepare and run lab work.
• Obtaining accurate patient histories.
• Client communication
• Accurate record-keeping.
• Patient discharges.
• Restraint of patients for IV catheters, physical examinations, and minor procedures.
• Complete treatments of patients as assigned in a timely manner.
• Provide exceptional nursing care.
• Fill pre-printed prescriptions if a Med Clerk License is held.
• Basic drug calculations.
• Initiation of fluid therapy.
• Patient care of stable patients in isolation.
• All employees will be scheduled and expected to work rotating holiday shifts in the emergency and critical care departments.
• All employees are required to participate in the on-call rotation as needed. Shifts are subject to revisions and changes at the discretion of the hospital.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
• Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.

What You Bring

• Must have a minimum of two years of experience in veterinary medicine. ER preferred.
• Must be able to obtain a Veterinary Medication Clerks License upon hire and keep active throughout the entirety of employment
• Must have a valid high school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of patient handling and restraint.
• Excellent communication skills. Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations.
• Ability to act as a team player, adhering to all core values of the hospital.
