BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.

Our Emergency Veterinary Assistants triage cases, assist DVM with estimates, perform diagnostics, and care for ICU/inpatient patients while handling client communication. Competitive shift differentials apply and benefits are offered.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Northfield, IL is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department .

• Pay range: $20.32 - $30.00. This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Competitive Shift Differentials: Earn more with our shift differentials!
• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork , etc ), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant , you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
