Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking an Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced emergency department. You will triage emergencies, assist the DVM with diagnostics and procedures, discharge patients, and communicate with clients.

Responsibilities include nursing care, medication administration, phlebotomy, physical exams, anesthesia support, and adherence to CPR guidelines. Our team emphasizes continuous learning and a collaborative culture in a busy hospital setting.

• Perform physical exams; monitor heart rate, pulse, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment for ASA I or II patients.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork , etc ), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant , you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
