Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital seeks a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant to join a fast-paced emergency department in Florida. Pay ranges from $18.00 to $27.00 per hour, depending on experience and credentialing.

The role includes triaging emergencies, assisting DVM with overestimates, performing diagnostics, ICU care, discharge planning, and maintaining client communication. Excellent team collaboration and ongoing learning are emphasized.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards.

• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and basic physical exams.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment for ASA I/II patients.
• Stay current with CPR guidelines and assigned duties.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.

Pay: $18.00 - $27.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As An Emergency Veterinary Assistant, You Will

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
