Job summary

Animal Wellness Center of Pontiac is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and educate clients. The role includes assisting with examinations, preparing patients for surgery, and handling lab work and radiographs.

Pay ranges from USD 16.00 to USD 18.00 per hour, with opportunities for growth and benefits. Weekend availability is required, and basic math and computer skills are necessary to ensure accurate dosing and

Qualifications

• Weekend availability required.
• Veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including PPE.
• Basic math for dosages.
• Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Assist outpatient exams by taking histories, vitals, and weights and educating clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vitals during surgery.
• Obtain samples and perform in-hospital lab testing; prepare specimens for labs.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Keep exam rooms and labs clean and stocked; support other team members.
