Job summary

Mountain View Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with daily patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist with surgeries. The role includes preparing prescriptions, performing routine lab work, educating clients, and maintaining clean, organized work areas.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to remain professional while caring for patients and supporting clients.
• Ability to coordinate with veterinarians and team members and accept feedback.
• Strong communication skills to explain care plans to clients and staff.
• Attention to detail in handling lab work, meds, and patient instructions.
• Prior experience working in veterinary settings is advantageous.
• Comfort with maintaining accurate records and patient materials.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and surgery as needed.
• Take histories, vitals, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for procedures and monitor during surgery.
• Collect samples and perform in-house lab work; send specimens to external labs as required.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams; administer medications and vaccines as directed.
• Keep exam rooms and work areas clean and stocked; support staff with daily tasks.
• Communicate with clients and team to ensure high-quality patient care and client satisfaction.
