Job summary

North Main Animal Clinic in Dayton, OH is hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and help with surgical procedures.

Qualifying candidates will have weekend availability, potential for lifting up to 25 pounds (assistance as needed), basic math and computer skills, and a focus on clear client communication and compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Ability to work on weekends as required.
• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; with assistance over 25 pounds.
• Practice OSHA safety techniques including PPE.
• Basic math and calculation of medication dosages.
• Basic computer skills with MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery as needed.
• Assist outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights; provide client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool and other samples; perform in‑house lab testing and prepare specimens for outside labs.
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment and lab areas; restock supplies.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism with clients; show compassion and care to patients.
• Communicate with veterinarians and team members including client discussions and plans.
• Any other duties as assigned.
