Job summary

Winsted Hospital for Animals is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team in Winsted, CT. This full-time role supports veterinarians and technicians across wellness, illness, and surgical care, with a focus on compassionate patient handling and client communication.

You will document medical information, restrain animals safely, and help maintain clean, organized exam rooms, contributing to high-quality patient care and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Previous Veterinary Assistant experience preferred.
  • Animal handling experience with a strong desire to learn.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during wellness, illness, and surgical appointments.
  • Obtain patient histories and document medical information accurately.
  • Safely restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Assist with patient treatments, nursing care, and diagnostic procedures.
  • Support laboratory testing and sample collection.
  • Assist with surgical preparation and patient recovery.
  • Maintain accurate patient medical records.
  • Clean, organize, and stock hospital areas and treatment spaces.
  • Provide compassionate client communication and education.
  • Help maintain an efficient daily workflow throughout the hospital.
