Powhatan Animal Hospital is a small animal practice located between Richmond and the countryside. We are a high-volume hospital offering laser therapy and orthopedic surgery. We support our local high school and sheriff’s department, and we go out of our way to assist clients with vehicle access if needed.

As a Veterinary Assistant, you will support our skilled teams, assist with patient care, and help ensure smooth hospital operations. Benefits include access to a peer network, tuition reimbursement for Vet Tech programs, and ongoing learning opportunities.

Position Skills
  • Assist DVMs and veterinary technicians with appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures
  • Safely and compassionately restrain animals
  • Record accurate vital signs and medical histories, noting changes for DVMs
  • Prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies
  • Maintain medical equipment including laboratory and surgical tools
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient care and updates
Position Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Flexible schedule, including some weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of animal handling and basic medical procedures
  • Strong communication skills, good judgment, and ability to work under stress
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Pay range: $14.00-$15.00/hour based on experience. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, disability coverage, paid time off, educational assistance, and more.
