Job summary

Alpha Veterinary Services in Uniontown, PA is seeking an Experienced Veterinary Assistant to support doctors, technicians, patients, and clients. The role is full-time, with a schedule of Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM and rotating Saturdays, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM.

Qualifications

  • 1–2+ years of veterinary assistant or hospital experience preferred.
  • Comfortable with animal restraint and hands-on patient care.
  • Experience with blood draws, lab samples or surgical assistance is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication and client service skills.
  • Ability to work in a busy, team-focused environment.
  • Willingness to work rotating Saturday shifts.
  • Experience with surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, or large animals is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during appointments and procedures.
  • Restrain and handle patients for examinations and treatments.
  • Obtain patient histories and assist with room appointments.
  • Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites.
  • Assist with surgical prep and patient recovery.
  • Collect lab samples and assist with in-house testing.
  • Perform venipuncture and assist with IV catheter placement as appropriate.
  • Assist with digital radiographs and other diagnostics.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under supervision.
  • Provide attentive care to hospitalized patients.
  • Communicate discharge instructions to clients.
  • Maintain patient information and treatment records.
  • Clean and disinfect treatment areas.
  • Support team and help maintain workflow.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll work closely with our veterinarians and veterinary technicians to provide excellent patient care. Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during appointments, treatments, and procedures
  • Safely restrain and handle patients for examinations and treatments
  • Obtain patient histories and assist with room appointments
  • Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites
  • Assist with surgical preparation and patient recovery
  • Collect laboratory samples and assist with in‑house diagnostic testing
  • Perform venipuncture and assist with IV catheter placement based on experience
  • Assist with digital radiographs and other diagnostics
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments under veterinary supervision
  • Provide attentive care to hospitalized patients
  • Communicate with clients regarding basic patient care and discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate patient information and treatment documentation
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain patient care and treatment areas
  • Support your teammates and help maintain an efficient hospital workflow
What We’re Looking For
  • 1–2+ years of veterinary assistant or veterinary hospital experience preferred
  • Comfortable with animal restraint and hands‑on patient care
  • Previous experience with blood draws, laboratory samples, treatments, or surgical assistance is highly preferred
  • Strong communication and client service skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy, team‑focused environment
  • Dependable, compassionate, and willing to jump in wherever needed
  • Eager to learn and continue developing veterinary clinical skills
  • Willingness to work rotating Saturday shifts
  • Experience with surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, or large animals is a plus
