Job summary

Oyster Bay Animal Hospital in Oyster Bay, New York is seeking a warm, dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate has a passion for animals and excellent customer service skills.

In this role you will assist with animal handling, greet clients and their pets, input data into our system, and support vaccination protocols and routine tests to ensure a compassionate, high-quality experience for every patient and client.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of Veterinary Assistant experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Weekend availability is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, quality customer care to patients and clients.
• Assist with animal handling and restraint.
• Determine the immunization and test status of patients.
• Greet clients and their pets for examinations.
• Help maintain hospital cleanliness and client experience.
• Accurately input data into computer software.
• Answer phones, respond to emails/texts, schedule appointments.
• Assist in scheduling follow-ups for overdue services.
• Understand vaccination protocols, basic lab tests, veterinary terminology.
• Fill prescriptions, food requests, and OTC products under a vet's guidance.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Provide friendly, quality customer care to patients and clients
• Assist with animal handling and restraint
• Determine the status of the patient’s immunizations and tests
• Greet clients and their pets and set them up for examinations
• Assist in cleanliness and maintenance of the hospital to ensure a great client experience.
• Accurately input data into computer software
• Some reception work including but not limited to answering phones, responding to emails, responding to text messages, scheduling appointments, checking clients out, confirming appointments and obtaining all necessary medical history
• Making outbound calls to schedule appointments for pets that are past due for services
• Understand common vaccination protocols, basic lab tests, common diseases, veterinary terminology and pet behavior
• Fill prescriptions, food requests, and over-the-counter products as instructed by a veterinarian

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

• At least one year of Veterinary Assistant experience required.
