Job summary

Banfield Pet Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians while ensuring the safety and well‑being of pets, clients, and staff. This role emphasizes teamwork and adherence to high hospital standards in a fast‑paced environment.

You will educate clients on preventive care and wellness plans, assist during exams, and help maintain clean, organized treatment areas. NAVTA‑trained candidates or those with equivalent education are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Certificate from NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent education/experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to perform all required NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program skills.

Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team who supports and assists veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and other associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations and procedures.
  • Help maintain the flow of patients and communication among staff.
  • Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance.
  • Adhere to hospital standards to keep pets safe and maintain clean, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  • Educate clients about preventive care and the Optimum Wellness Plans.
  • Mentor other members of the hospital team.
Qualifications
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to perform all required skills of a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program.
  • Strong communication and customer‑focus skills.
  • Positive attitude, action‑oriented, good listener, effective communicator, and caring for those who care.
Preferred Education
  • Certificate from a NAVTA‑approved program or equivalent training.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience performing skills outlined in NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistants.
