Job Summary
The Veterinary Assistant supports and assists veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and associates and the continuity of quality veterinary care.
Responsibilities
- Help maintain the flow of patients
- Communicate with the veterinarian and vet techs
- Carry out or set up procedures requiring no veterinarian or vet tech assistance
- Adhere to hospital standards to keep pets safe and maintain clean, organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs
- Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans and preventive care
- Mentor other members of the hospital team
Qualifications
- Certificate of completion from a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.
Work Conditions
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
- Confidence around pets of all species.
- Position is specifically hiring for weekend support.
- Use of mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability to perform duties proficiently.
- Moderately high noise level in the workplace.
- Requires sufficient ambulatory skills and ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and manipulate up to 50 pounds.
- Requires good hand‑eye coordination, arm‑hand‑finger dexterity and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
- Exposure to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch; occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
Pay
$15.19 - $19.41 hourly
