Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform all required NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program skills at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.

Job Summary

The Veterinary Assistant supports and assists veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and associates and the continuity of quality veterinary care.

Responsibilities
  • Help maintain the flow of patients
  • Communicate with the veterinarian and vet techs
  • Carry out or set up procedures requiring no veterinarian or vet tech assistance
  • Adhere to hospital standards to keep pets safe and maintain clean, organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs
  • Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans and preventive care
  • Mentor other members of the hospital team
Qualifications
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program or equivalent education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.
Work Conditions
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Confidence around pets of all species.
  • Position is specifically hiring for weekend support.
  • Use of mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability to perform duties proficiently.
  • Moderately high noise level in the workplace.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills and ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb and manipulate up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand‑eye coordination, arm‑hand‑finger dexterity and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
  • Exposure to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch; occasional exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
Pay

$15.19 - $19.41 hourly
