Job summary

Heart + Paw is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians during exams and procedures. You will monitor and comfort pets, collect samples, administer medications, and maintain medical records in a collaborative, pet-focused environment.

The role emphasizes client communication, teamwork, and adherence to low-stress handling practices, with opportunities to promote grooming, daycare, and boarding services within a state-of-the-art facility.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Experience: 1–2 years in a clinical veterinary setting.
  • Skills: Exceptional client communication, strong interpersonal abilities, and teamwork mindset.
  • Physical Capability: Lift 20+ lbs and manage demanding situations.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Certifications: Fear Free or HABRI or willingness to obtain.
  • Passion for pets and human-animal bond.
  • Tech-savvy with interest in innovative veterinary practices.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during routine exams and procedures.
  • Monitor and care for pets, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Collect samples and perform diagnostics under supervision.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments.
  • Record medical history and inventory logs.
  • Prepare rooms for appointments and surgery.
  • Educate pet parents on preventive care, nutrition, and behavior.
  • Support low-stress handling practices during interactions.
  • Assist with radiographs, dental procedures, and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Maintain a clean, disease-free environment.
  • Promote center services including grooming, daycare, boarding.
