Position Overview

The veterinary assistant provides support to veterinarians and technicians by maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising, grooming patients, preparing surgery areas, restraining and handling patients, and performing clerical tasks. They deliver quality care and exceptional service to all patients.

Essential Functions
  1. Provide compassionate care to all patients.
  2. Greet patients and owners, record vital signs, and assist during examinations.
  3. Assist with physical exams, treatments, and medication administration under supervision.
  4. Calm and soothe anxious patients.
  5. Help with laboratory tests, radiographs, and operate hospital equipment.
  6. Manage medication prescriptions, documentation, and controlled substances.
  7. Feed and groom patients, monitor their condition, and report abnormalities.
  8. Communicate effectively with clients, educate them, and ensure their comfort.
  9. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of hospital facilities and equipment.
  10. Assist with overnight care, ensuring animals are clean and groomed.
  11. Follow safety regulations and hospital protocols.
  12. Maintain accurate medical records and show up regularly for shifts.
  13. Support hospital products and services promotion.
  14. Respond promptly to directions from veterinary staff.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned, including specialty area tasks.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of veterinary experience preferred.
  • Vet Tech (VTNE) certification preferred.
  • Experience with surgical monitoring, radiology, dental prophylaxis, and client education is a plus.
  • Equivalent education, certification, or training may be considered.
Position Requirements
  • Commit to ongoing education and skill improvement.
  • Ability to restrain animals, administer prescriptions, and monitor sedation.
  • Work around animals, chemicals, and potentially hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of hospital procedures, policies, and computer systems.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
  • Physical ability to lift animals up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, and perform strenuous tasks.

Pay Range: $21—$25 USD
