Job summary

Heart + Paw is seeking a compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our collaborative team. You will help veterinarians during exams and surgeries, care for pets, collect samples, and educate pet parents on preventive care and nutrition.

A focus on low-stress handling and strong teamwork is essential. Ideal candidates have 1–2 years in a clinical veterinary setting, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and can lift 20+ lbs.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Experience: 1–2 years in a clinical veterinary setting.
  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to lift 20+ lbs and handle emotionally demanding situations.
  • Teamwork and adaptability in a fast-paced clinic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams and procedures.
  • Monitor and care for pets, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Collect samples and perform diagnostics under supervision.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed.
  • Maintain patient medical history and inventory records.
  • Prepare rooms for appointments and surgery.
  • Educate pet parents on preventive care and nutrition.
  • Support low-stress handling practices during all interactions.
  • Assist with radiographs, dental procedures, and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Maintain a clean, disease-free center environment.
  • Promote services including grooming, daycare, and boarding.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Preferred Experience: 1-2 years in a clinical veterinary setting.
  • Skills: Exceptional client communication, strong interpersonal abilities, and teamwork mindset.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to lift 20+ lbs. and manage emotionally and physically demanding situations.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Certifications: Fear Free or HABRI certification (or a willingness to obtain).
  • A passion for pets and the human-animal bond.
  • Tech-savvy with an interest in innovative veterinary practices.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.

Pay Range

$16 - $19 USD
