Veterinary Assistant

Location: Rochester, NY

Who we are

At Companion Animal Hospital, you’ll feel the warmth and openness of a small clinic, while having the opportunity and support of a united network. Our ideal candidate is passionate about animal care, highly motivated, efficient, and attentive to detail. Our Veterinary Assistants work side by side with our Veterinarians (DVMs) and Licensed Vet Technicians (LVTs) during procedures. A full-time position requires working between 30-40 hours a week.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Competently speak and write English.
  • Perform tasks efficiently without rushing.
  • Promote a positive attitude among staff.
  • Handle stress and pressure with poise and tact.
  • Communicate and educate clients on medical recommendations in person or over the phone.
  • Stock exam and treatment rooms with supplies, maintaining a clean environment for the hospital.
  • Utilize computer systems to record patient history, update, and maintain medical records.
  • Dispense pharmaceuticals accurately as required.
  • Assist in placing weekly inventory orders, manage on-hand inventory, and receive shipments.
Experience & Skills Requirements:
  • At least 1 year of experience in animal husbandry.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; AAS or higher preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and stand, squat, reach, and walk throughout the day.

Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience, with an hourly pay starting at $16-$18/hour. The actual rate will consider skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
