The veterinary assistant is the entire team's primary support. Every department relies on their significant role in aiding with a variety of services to provide excellent client and patient care.

Job Description Overview

1. Assist with patient care and treatment
2. Monitor hospitalized pets / aid in caring for animals after surgery
3. Maintain inventory and stock supplies
4. Restrain animals during blood draws and nail trims
5. Assist with routine diagnostic tests (e.g., radiographs, bloodwork, fecal analysis)
6. Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment
7. Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, exam and treatment areas
8. Administer medications under Veterinarian or Vet Tech supervision
9. Feed and bathe animals
10. Answer phones and provide customer service
11. Assist clients with their pets

Qualifications

1. Must be 18 years old or older
2. Self-starter, able to multitask, and a team player
3. Genuine love for working with animals and ability to handle stressed, ill, or in-pain animals
4. Prefer 1+ years of experience, but not required
5. Ability to meet physical demands: lifting, carrying, restraining animals (assistance available for animals over 40 lbs). Must be able to lift 40 lbs independently
6. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and work in bent or squatting positions
7. Experience working collaboratively with all levels of hospital staff
