Job summary

Highway Veterinary Hospital in Bowie, Maryland, is seeking a compassionate Part-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our growing three-doctor team. We value a supportive, collaborative environment and a commitment to excellent patient care and client communication.

You will collect patient histories, assist during examinations, discuss vaccines and preventive care with pet owners, present treatment plans, and help with diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Excellent venipuncture skills for dogs and cats.
• Experience placing IV catheters preferred.
• Experience administering vaccines and discussing preventive care.
• Strong animal handling and restraint abilities, including fractious patients.
• Proven client communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
• Saturday: Closed
• Sunday: Closed

What You'll Be Doing

This role is heavily focused on client communication and patient care. Responsibilities include:

• Collecting patient histories
• Running appointments alongside veterinarians
• Discussing vaccines and preventive care with pet owners
• Presenting treatment plans for sick patients
• Client education and communication
• Animal restraint and handling
• Assisting with diagnostics and treatments
• Supporting the medical team throughout the day

Desired Skills & Experience

• Proficiency with canine and feline venipuncture
• Preferred experience placing IV catheters
• Experience administering vaccines
• Knowledge of vaccine protocols and preventive care
• Strong animal handling and restraint skills, including fractious patients
• Confidence discussing medical recommendations with clients
