The VeterinaryAnesthesiaTechnician 1provides support to preclinical surgical research by providing the safe and effective administrationand maintenanceof anesthesia toanimalsundergoingsurgicalprocedures,maintainingaccuraterecords, and monitoring animal recovery.

WhatYou’llDo
  • Prepares and anesthetizes animals according to study procedures and protocols, including administering sedation,intubationof animals and propermechanicalventilationset upandusage.
  • Maintains general anesthesia in an operating room setting and administersprotocol specificmedications, continuous rate infusions and emergency intervention as needed.
  • Responsible formaintainingcontrolled drug logs using integrated systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshootsa widevariety ofanesthesia equipment.
  • Maintainsaccurateand detailed anesthesia records, documenting medications administered, vital signs, observations, and any complications during anesthesia.
  • Maymonitoranimal recovery andadministerpost-procedure pain relief.
  • Cleans, sterilizes, andmaintainsanesthesia equipment, ensuringoptimalfunctioning and readiness for use. Follows proper protocols for maintenance and calibration of monitoring equipment.
  • Stays abreast of current veterinary anesthesia techniques, including emergency medications and procedures. Provides training and guidance to preclinical surgical staffregardinganesthesia protocols and best practices.
  • Ensures study compliance and safety of animals by adhering to veterinary medical regulations, safety protocols, preclinical policies, and study procedures and protocols.
Required Qualifications
  • 3-6yearsof relevant work experience in veterinary anesthesia
  • Good understanding ofadvancedveterinary anesthesia techniques,general anesthesiamedications,anesthesia equipmentincluding veterinary ventilators, andgeneral anesthesiamonitoringparameters.
  • Proficiencyin using monitoring equipment and troubleshooting anesthesia-related issues. Proficient in constant rate infusion (CRI) calculations and administration.
  • Good understanding of safety protocols for clinical environment and animal care
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions during emergencies.
  • Good written and oral communicationskills
  • Strong medical math skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail foraccuratedocumentation and recordkeeping.
  • Abilityto multitaskand perform a variety of activities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Registered Veterinary Technician, Surgical Research AnesthesiaCertificationand/or RegisteredLaboratory Animal Technician certificationsare stronglypreferred.
