Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets is seeking an Anesthesia Veterinary Assistant to join our clinical team. The role supports anesthesia procedures, manages patient information, and ensures high-quality perioperative care across a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include IV catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and monitoring anesthesia while applying advanced techniques as needed. Prior veterinary experience and strong communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Prior veterinary experience required; anesthesia experience preferred.
  • Proficient in calculations for drugs, CRIs, units, conversions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work well in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in anesthesia and analgesia-related procedures; tailor anesthetic plans to patient needs.
  • Manage appointments, histories, medical records, invoicing, and discharges.
  • Place IV catheters, perform endotracheal intubation, and operate anesthesia equipment.
  • Understand how comorbidities affect case protocols and perioperative management.
  • Monitor anesthesia, troubleshoot complications, and intervene as needed.
  • Expand knowledge with advanced anesthetic techniques as applicable.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Drive the MedVet experience and maintain high-quality patient care.
  • Collaborate effectively as a highly functional team member.

Anesthesia Veterinary Assistant

Proposed work schedule: Tuesday - Friday from 8a to 6:30p, alternating on call weekends

Do you enjoy collaborating with multiple teams and departments throughout the day? You will have the opportunity to continuously expand your knowledge and skillset in anesthesia procedures and treatments.

What you’ll do:
  • Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.,
  • Intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance
  • Thorough understanding of anesthetic considerations and how comorbidities affect case protocol and perioperative management
  • Monitor anesthesia, trouble shoot anesthetic complications and make appropriate interventions
  • Continuous expansion of knowledge and skillset; advanced anesthetic skills include arterial line placement, epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
  • Lean on thorough understanding of physiology and pharmacology to facilitate delivery of appropriate anesthetic care for high risk patients or procedures.

Who you are:
  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous anesthesia experience desired
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
