Job summary

ASPCA’s Cruelty Recovery Center in Columbus, OH seeks a Veterinarian to provide high-quality care for animals in shelters and field shelters. You will collaborate with SDVS and CRC veterinarians, support forensic sciences, and adapt to changing caseloads and priorities.

Requirements include a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, Ohio licensure or eligibility, and experience in shelter medicine; Fear Free certification and USDA Category 2 preferred. Travel up to 15% and long hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited college.
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Ohio or eligible for licensure; must obtain license within 30 days of hire.
  • Clinical experience as a veterinarian working primarily with dogs and cats.
  • Fear Free and Fear Free Shelters certified or completed within 60 days of employment.
  • USDA Category 2 accredited or obtained within 3 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, high-quality veterinary care to dogs, cats, and other species in accordance with ASPCA protocols.
  • Monitor health of shelter population and mitigate disease outbreaks.
  • Collaborate with partner hospitals for advanced workups and referrals.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation; produce reports as needed.
  • Assist with forensic examinations and evidence collection in cruelty cases.
  • Mentor externs and staff; support training and education.

Education

Doctorate: Veterinary Medicine
Ohio license or eligible
Shelter medicine experience
Fear Free certification
USDA Category 2 accreditation
ICS/IS training awareness
