Job summary

City of Jacksonville seeks a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine to join the Animal Care & Protective Services team. The Veterinarian will examine and triage animals entering the facility, develop treatment plans for emergencies, perform surgeries, and monitor housed animals.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Examine and triage animals entering the facility.
  • Develop and oversee treatment plans for emergency or ongoing care.
  • Perform surgeries and monitor health of housed animals.
  • Advise the Chief and other managers in veterinary medicine.
  • Perform necropsies/forensic exams and testify as needed.
  • Stay informed on medical literature to review procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners, staff and volunteers.
  • Be available for after-hours assistance for critical cases.
