Job summary

Palomar College is seeking a Veterans Services Specialist to certify and process VA educational benefit applications. The role includes compliance oversight as the VA School Certifying Official and researching VA programs, scholarships, and grants.

You will supervise short-term and student workers, plan events, and serve as liaison with the VA, the District, and students.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience involving college admissions, enrollment or records while serving in any branch of the U.S. military.
• Education: Associate degree as specified, with transcripts for credit substitutions.
• Only accredited coursework/degrees recognized by USDOE are considered for equivalency.

Primary Function

Performs the full range of duties associated with certification and processing of student applications for Veterans Administration (VA) educational benefits in accordance with all applicable legal requirements and guidelines; serves as the VA School Certifying Official with responsibility for all compliance activities on behalf of the District; under general supervision, responsible for researching the scope and requirements of a variety of VA programs, scholarships and grants; participates in hiring, schedules and oversees the work of short-term, volunteer and student workers; plans and implements a variety of on- and off-campus activities and events; serves as liaison for Veterans Services programs with the VA, the District and students.

Salary

• $5,733.10 [step 1] – $6,963.41 [step 5]. Step placement may be negotiable within this range dependent upon education and experience.

• If you are a current employee who applies via the external recruitment process and is selected for a promotion, step placement on the new grade will be in accordance with the applicable District agreement/handbook.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three years of experience involving college admissions, enrollment or records, and/or administrative support experience while serving in any branch of the U.S. military

• Note: For work experience, a "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months.

Education: Equivalent to an associate's degree in business administration or a related field.

Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications.
