Job summary

The US Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Center in Northport, NY seeks an experienced Nursing Assistant to join the Mental Health team. The NA will perform activities of daily living and care under a licensed provider, in settings such as outpatient, inpatient, home, or Community Living Center, contributing to the Veteran’s treatment plan and recovery.

GS-3 to GS-5 levels may be applicable; duties include routine measurements, patient education, and observation with supervision.

Qualifications

Six months general experience or education meeting the NA requirements.
One year of education above high school with courses related to nursing care/health care.
2 years above high school in nursing care/health care related field may substitute experience.
4-year course leading to a bachelor’s degree including health care courses is acceptable for higher grade levels.

Responsibilities

Provide activities of daily living and a range of care to support the Veteran's treatment plan.
Assist with monitoring and documenting health status under supervision of a licensed provider.
Perform and document prescribed medical treatments such as glucose monitoring and simple dressing changes.
Utilize proper body mechanics and maintain patient privacy and safety.
Participate in interdisciplinary team activities and group therapies as directed.
