Job summary

U.S.VETS is seeking a Housing Specialist to assist homeless and at-risk veterans and families in securing and maintaining stable housing under the SSVF program. This role combines housing navigation, landlord engagement, documentation, and supportive services to help participants overcome housing barriers and move toward greater stability and independence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience may substitute for degree.
• Experience working with homeless and/or veterans preferred.
• Strong oral, written and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet.
• Valid driver’s license required and must meet company insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assess participants’ housing needs, barriers, and progress and develop housing strategies.
• Help veterans and families identify, apply for, and secure housing.
• Support participants in maintaining housing and connecting to community resources and services.
• Coordinate transportation to housing-related appointments, resources, and services.
• Maintain participant confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries.
• Develop and maintain relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing providers.
• Coordinate with SSVF case managers, VA personnel, and community partners to support participant housing and stability.
• Complete accurate HMIS data entry and maintain case records.
• Track and report participant progress according to program requirements.
