The Veterans Home RN is an important and valuable member to the South Dakota Veterans Home by "taking care of America's Heroes" by providing professional nursing services that require the application of basic nursing principles, practices, and techniques that follow established healthcare procedures and standards. Successful candidates work in a long-term care setting at the South Dakota State Veterans Home and operate in a patient care environment where the focus is on the healthcare of individuals. Pay rate and classification level will be determined by combination of education and experience. Responsibilities in the higher classification will be similar; however, complexity and oversight may change.

Licenses and Certifications: Must be licensed and able to work as a registered nurse in South Dakota.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Registered Nurse License and associate degree, bachelor degree, or 3-year diploma. New graduates welcome. On-the-job training is available. All certificates and/or tests required for performance at this level must be obtained and/or completed.

Knowledge of:

Professional Nursing Theory and practices;

recent development in the field of professional nursing applicable to the area of assignment;

clinical procedures.

Ability to:

keep records;

follow instructions;

operate a variety of medical equipment;

make reports on observations;

apply general nursing techniques and practices;

maintain a helpful and sympathetic attitude toward patients;

deal effectively with patients and staff.
