Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a part-time Veterans Care Specialist in Silver Bay to lead and mentor CNA-HST staff, administer medications as prescribed, and contribute to care planning and educational initiatives.

The role supports rotating day/evening shifts with a schedule that includes weekends as assigned and requires strong leadership, communication, and geriatric care expertise.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Nursing Assistant with the MDH Nursing Assistant Registry.
• Certified as a Trained Medication Aide (TMA).
• One year of experience as a CNA and/or HST or providing direct care for others.
• Human relations, communications, and leadership skills sufficient to lead and educate others.
• Knowledge in two or more areas: dementia, restorative care, hospice/palliative care, aging/geriatric services.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, training, oversight and mentoring to CNA-HST staff to enhance competencies and resident services.
• Independently administer medications and/or treatments as prescribed to residents.
• Participate in team meetings and in care plan development and implementation for residents.
• Measure goals for residents and analyze data to assess interventions.
• Assist in developing and implementing an educational curriculum for staff.
