Job summary

The Missouri Veterans Commission is seeking a Veterans Service Officer (VSO) to help Veterans and their families obtain federal and state benefits. The role is mission-driven and focused on making a difference in Veterans' lives as part of a team that serves with dedication.

Eligible applicants will assist with eligibility determinations, benefits education, and benefits packages in compliance with VA laws and Missouri regulations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and procedures related to benefits for military members, Veterans and dependents.
• Knowledge of application and appeal processes for VA and other federal benefits.
• Ability to interview, communicate with the public from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with Veterans and dependents to determine eligibility for benefits.
• Review data to raise awareness of Federal, State, and Local/Private Veteran benefits or related programs.
• Develop claims packages for disability, education, health care, burial and related benefits per VA laws and regulations.
• Maintain beneficiary claim files and prepare annual verifications for eligibility.
• Represent MVC to conduct outreach, attend benefit fairs and promote MVC programs.
• Respond to benefit questions from Veterans, dependents, legislators, and Veteran Service Organizations.
