Job summary

Volunteers of America in Sioux Falls, SD seeks a Life Skills Educator for our shelter serving homeless veterans. The full-time role focuses on teaching social and life skills, setting boundaries, guiding decisions, resolving conflicts and promoting a home-like environment.

Responsibilities include supervising residents, organizing activities, preparing meals, and modeling positive behaviors while supporting veterans’ goals; a valid driver’s license is required for transportation duties and a 21+

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: Military service or experience preferred.
• Skills: Effective communication and management skills are necessary.
• Certifications & Licenses: Valid driver’s license required if providing transportation services.
• Other Requirements: All candidates must be at least 21 years of age; preference will be given to qualified veterans.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision to ensure safety and well-being of all residents.
• Guide group dynamics, providing support and guidance as appropriate.
• Participate in activities, assisting with privileges and requests as appropriate.
• Assist participants during meals, ensuring proper nutritional needs are met.
• Provide effective role modeling for residents to encourage healthy lifestyles.
• Provide support and guidance to participants in achieving their goals.
• Maintain consistent communication regarding the process of each resident with other residential staff.
• Document services, activities and necessary program information.
• Responsible for other duties as assigned.
