George Mason University seeks a Veteran and Dependent Benefits Coordinator to support military-connected students from admissions through enrollment, helping families understand VA education benefits and navigate the student lifecycle.

You will manage communications, coordinate with campus partners, and promote military services while maintaining training and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn procedures quickly and train others.
  • Valid driver's license that meets GMU Vehicle Use Policy 1411.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively recruits military-connected freshmen, transfer, and graduate students.
  • Advises on state and federal education benefits including VA programs.
  • Communicates with prospective students and applicants via CRM and phone.
  • Delivers presentations highlighting GMU resources for military-connected students.
  • Supports veteran and military events and campus programs.
  • Collaborates with campus offices to resolve issues and promote student success.
  • Maintains communications and case documentation in CRM.
  • Participates in admissions events and outreach activities.

The Division for Enrollment Management, as part of the Office of the Provost at George Mason University, supports studentrecruitment, retention, and success. We develop and implementstrategic enrollment management plans, create and facilitateprocesses, and inform policies that guide students through theiracademic journey from recruitment to post-matriculation. The Office of Admissions facilitates the recruitment and enrollmentof freshmen, transfer, graduate, and non-degree students inalignment with the University's strategic plan, ensuring a diverseand successful student body that contributes to the institution'sexcellence and global impact.

About the Position:

The Veteran and Dependent Benefits Coordinator serves as a primarypoint of contact and advocate for military-connected students,actively recruiting prospective freshman, transfer, and graduatestudents while helping them and their families understand and applyVA benefits. Provides personalized support throughout the studentlifecycle by assisting with admissions, orientation, enrollment,and the successful utilization of education benefits, whilecollaborating with campus partners to resolve issues and promotestudent success. Responsibilities also include conductingpresentations and outreach activities, developing communitypartnerships, supporting military- and veteran-focused events,maintaining communication and case documentation through CustomerRelationship Management (CRM) system and phone systems, managingsocial media engagement, overseeing aspects of the VA Work-StudyProgram, maintaining School Certifying Official trainingrequirements, and contributing to the daily operations of theOffice of Military Services.

Responsibilities:
  • Actively recruits military-connected freshman, transfer, andgraduate students;
  • Meets with prospective students and their families about stateand federal education benefits related to military serviceincluding tuition assistance, Department of Veteran AffairsPrograms, and other programs assisting military and veteranfamilies;
  • Communicates with perspective students and applicants throughthe Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and over thephone;
  • Conducts presentations that highlight George Mason Universityand educational support services for military connectedstudents;
  • Supports schools, colleges and programs on campus with veteranand military-connected events;
  • Develops active collaborations within the local community toaugment recruitment efforts through various outreach methods,including workshops and attending events both on- andoff-campus;
  • Assists newly enrolled and current military-connected studentswith the utilization of education benefits;
  • Identifies the root cause of the problems impeding thesuccessful utilization of education benefits and assists studentswith solutions;
  • Collaborates with partner offices on campus, including, but notlimited to, Student Accounts, Registrar, Financial Aid, andAcademic Advising, to assist with timely resolutions;
  • Documents and maintains all communications in the CRM throughcase management and by using the phone system;
  • Maintains annual training requirements as a School CertifyingOfficial for the Department of Veterans Affairs;
  • Participates in day-to-day operations, activities and processesof the Office of Military Services;
  • Collaborates with New Student and Family Programs and GraduateOrientation to ensure newly enrolled military connected studentsare supported;
  • Assists admitted students through the orientation process;
  • Assists with the VA work study program;
  • Actively participates in Admissions events, as needed;
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned; and
  • Maintains a social media and communication presence by engagingwith military connected students and families about resources andprograms to support student success.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in related field, or equivalent combinationof education and experience;
  • Customer service experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well both verbally and inwriting;
  • Ability to learn procedures quickly and use learned proceduresto train others;
  • Proficient with technology and able to learn new systems;and
  • Valid driver's license: must currently possess an appropriate,active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all ofGMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment underMason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Officeof Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver’slicenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidatesselected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combinationof education and experience;
  • Prior military experience;
  • Experience with Enrollment Manager and VMSDEP Portal;
  • Experience in higher education with knowledge of military andVA programs;
  • Experience using a CRM system;
  • Experience working with student records and informationsystems;
  • Knowledge of admissions programs;
  • Knowledge of the VMSDEP and Department of Veterans Affairseducational benefits; and
  • Familiar with information technology systems used by theDepartment of Veterans Affairs, service branches and institutionsof higher learning.
