Job summary

Paws & Claws Animal Hospital in Wilmington, NC seeks a kennel technician to care for hospitalized animals and assist in our boarding facility. Responsibilities include feeding, medicating, cleaning, and maintaining records, with emphasis on compassionate handling of sick or frightened animals.

Weekend and holiday work is required. Benefits and extensive staff programs are offered to support employees in a busy, compassionate veterinary setting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods.
• Proper methods of animal restraint.
• Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
• Perform moderately heavy physical labor.
• Ability to attend to sick, scared and injured animals sympathetically and patiently.
• Ability to learn to administer medications.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the job.

Responsibilities

• Care, feeding, medicating and cleaning of hospital patients.
• Restocking hospital supplies.
• Helping with post-operative patients.
• Assisting doctors and assistants with animal restraint and exams.
• Proper recordkeeping of medications, special foods, appetite, behavior and issues in care.
• Training to clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
