Job summary

State Road Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians, monitor hospitalized pets, and assist with surgeries and exams. The role includes taking histories, vital signs, preparing patients, and educating clients.

Candidates should have weekend availability, basic math for dosages, competency with MS Office, and a compassionate, team‑oriented mindset. Prior veterinary experience is preferred and will be valued for fast onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment.
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams and educate clients.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
• Collect samples and perform in-house lab testing; prepare specimens for external labs.
• Take and develop radiographs following safety procedures.
• Handle and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed.
• Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, labs, and restock supplies.
• Demonstrate warmth, professionalism, and compassion in all interactions.
• Communicate with veterinarians and staff about patient plans and concerns.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
