Job summary

Nichols Bros. Boat Builders in Freeland, WA seeks an experienced Machinery Assembler or Journeyman Machinist to bring vessels to life by installing propulsion and machinery systems and fabricating foundations. You will work with lathes, mills, plasma cutters, and precision tools to meet blueprints and tolerances.

The role requires 3+ years of shipyard experience, strong safety mindset, good written and verbal communication, and willingness to work overtime in a dynamic yard environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as a Machinery Assembler or Journeyman Machinist.
• High school diploma/GED or vocational training.
• Knowledge of shipyard safety practices and vessel terminology; blueprint and spec interpretation; sound basic math.
• Effective written and verbal communication.
• Experience with hand/power tools; exposure to lathes and milling machines.
• Available for overtime; comfortable around heavy machinery.
• Shipyard (new build or repair) or marine construction experience preferred.
• Laser alignment skills (Rotoline, Pinpoint).
• Shipyard Competent Person certification.
• Experience across multiple materials (steel, aluminum).
• Knowledge of NAVSEA standard items.
• OSHA 10 certification.
• Forklift and manlift certifications/experience.

Responsibilities

• Install and align propulsion and machinery systems on vessels.
• Fabricate structural foundations from blueprints in steel or aluminum.
• Finish alignments and lock-downs during sea trials.
• Operate lathes, mills, grinders, drills to meet tolerances.
• Maintain safety and orderliness of tools and workspace.
