Job summary

Nichols Bros. Boat Builders in Freeland, WA seeks an experienced machinery assembler to install and align propulsion systems and fabricate foundations per blueprints. You will work with lathes, mills, grinders, and other tools, maintaining safety and accuracy in a dynamic shipyard environment.

Applicants should have 3+ years in machining, be able to read drawings, and lift up to 50 lbs. Confined-space work and OSHA 10 certification are required or pursued.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience as a machinery assembler or machinist.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, interpret drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of shipyard safety practices.
  • Experience with lathe and milling machines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work at heights up to 60 ft.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces using a respirator.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install and align major propulsion systems (engines, gear boxes, shafts).
  • Fabricate foundations from steel or aluminum per blueprints (MIG/Arc welding).
  • Align engines and gearboxes during sea trials.
  • Lay out, cut, form, machine and prepare for final assembly.
  • Operate lathes, mills, grinders, drills, calipers and torque wrenches.
  • Test parts to ensure tolerances meet owner specs.
  • Maintain clean, safe work area and follow safety policies.
  • Work independently or as part of a team.
