Job summary

Republic Services in Seattle seeks a vessel operator to oversee pre‑voyage inspections, safe navigation, and crew direction. The role uses weather forecasts, charts, and logs to ensure efficient, compliant operations and crew safety across waterways.

The candidate will train crew in safety and seamanship, conduct drills, and maintain regulatory documentation while supporting environmental response activities as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year related experience in the maritime industry.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License with an MVR that meets Business Driving standards.
• Should have or be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid, Marine Crane Operator Certification and Cold‑Water Survival Certificates.
• Possession of TWIC/MMC and other state certifications may be required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deploys, tows, and anchors containment boom and other spill response equipment.
• Ensures vessel and equipment are in good working order and ready for deployment or drill notifications.
• Documents and keeps current all vessel logs and inspections.
• Provides clear direction to deckhands and passengers to ensure safety during hazards.
• Performs onboard safety drills and compliance paperwork such as logs and charts.
