Job summary

Carrix, Inc./SSA Marine, Inc. seeks an Assistant Vessel Operations Manager in Long Beach, CA to supervise vessel cargo handling operations and drive daily administrative tasks.

You will work with the Vessel Operations Manager to hire, promote or terminate staff and ensure alignment with customer standards and profits. The role requires 5–8 years in union-labor management, a college degree (or equivalent), and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• College degree preferred, or equivalent experience in Operations Management or related field.
• 5-8 years of experience managing related union labor.
• Must have a valid driver''s license.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles of terminal operations.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Experience with computerized operating systems.
• Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
• Knowledge of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired.
• Knowledge of local union dispatching rules.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate personnel to ensure work aligns with organizational requirements.
• Conduct employee training sessions on hazardous material handling, orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
• Participate in settlement of on-the-job grievances.
• Implement schedule and policy changes.
• Promote continuous improvement of policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
• Monitor operations for regulatory compliance with policies and safety/union rules.
• Promote safe work activities through safety audits and meetings.
• Investigate causes of accidents to improve safety procedures.
• Set operations policies and standards, including safety procedures.
• All other duties as assigned.
