Matson, Inc. is seeking a Vessel Engineering Manager in Tacoma, WA. This leadership role oversees the engineering team responsible for vessel maintenance, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective operations to ensure schedule integrity.

You will lead safety, financial, and personnel management, coordinate with Port Engineers, and report on performance with regular updates. This position requires strong engineering credentials and ocean-going vessel experience.

Qualifications

• Licensed USCG Chief Engineer, Unlimited Steam & Motor (First Assistant or Chief Engineer preferred).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a State or Federal Maritime Academy preferred.
• Experience as a Containership Technical Manager.

Responsibilities

• Oversee vessel maintenance and repair (M&R) including safety, financials, engineering and personnel management.
• Verify vessel schedule integrity and monitor daily performance to prevent disruptions.
• Approve Port Engineer maintenance plans and coordinate emergent maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Develop lay period work lists and provide timely reporting (daily/weekly/monthly).
• Manage Port Engineer schedules and oversee recruitment, training, and performance reviews.
