Job summary

Pittsburgh Public Schools is seeking a Building Substitute to cover classrooms across multiple schools. You will deliver instruction from provided plans or appropriate activities, while maintaining a safe, structured learning environment and following district procedures.

The role requires flexibility across grades, strong communication, and the ability to collaborate with staff. You will manage daily attendance, behavior, and documentation, supporting student learning throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required for consideration.
• Ability to obtain PDE Substitute Permit within 30 days if not PDE certified.
• Experience with diverse student populations is valued.

Responsibilities

• Monitor assignments and time reporting in Frontline.
• Deliver instruction using provided lesson plans or substitute activities.
• Support classrooms and school operations as assigned by administration.
• Maintain a safe, structured learning environment aligned with district rules.
• Communicate incidents or concerns to school leadership.
• Prepare a written summary of daily activities for the returning teacher.
