Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a courteous unit receptionist to support busy clinical departments. This role greets patients and visitors, coordinates front-desk communications, and helps maintain a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include scheduling patient appointments with clinical staff, performing mail and filing tasks, and ensuring safe, clean clerical spaces while upholding patient rights in every interaction. Prior computer usage and MS Office proficiency are preferred.

Qualifications

  • MINIMUM High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • One (1) to Two (2) years administrative clerical experience preferably in a patient care environment- or- current active YNHHS internal experience covering Business Associate/ Unit Associate responsibilities.
  • Prior computer usage strongly preferred.

  • Performs various unit clerical tasks including mailing, messages, record-keeping, typing, and filing.

  • Maintains safe, clean, and organized environment in all clerical areas.
  • Respects patients' rights at all times identified within the institution.
  • Assists in maintaining supplies at appropriate inventory levels.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations as directed.

Responsibilities
  • 1.Acts as receptionist, greeting and interacting with patients, visitors and others.
    • 1.1Greets all patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • 2.Performs various unit clerical tasks including mailing, messages, record-keeping, typing, and filing.
    • 2.1Distributes mail, utilizes paging system, takes and delivers messages for unit personnel
  • 3.Handles patient appointment system.
    • 3.1Schedules patient appointments in coordination with the clinical staff.
  • 4.Interacts with all others in a manner consistent with excellent hospital public relations.
    • 4.1Demonstrates professional and courteous manner during interactions with patients, hospital staff, physicians and their office staff, and with all other contacts.
  • 5.Cleanliness and safety.
    • 5.1Maintains safe, clean, and organized environment in all clerical areas.
  • 6.Patients' Rights.
    • 6.1Respects patients' rights at all times identified within the institution.
  • 7.Supplies/ordering, errands.
    • 7.1Assists in maintaining supplies at appropriate inventory levels.
  • 8.Emergency situations.
    • 8.1Performs efficiently in emergency situations as directed.
  • 9.Information/in-service participation.
    • 9.1Appropriately seeks information or assistance from administrator, or other resource people.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.

EXPERIENCE

One (1) to Two (2) years administrative clerical experience preferably in a patient care environment- or- current active YNHHS internal experience covering Business Associate/ Unit Associate responsibilities. Prior computer usage strongly preferred.
