ABOUT THE ROLE

Galveston County District Attorney’s Office is hiring a Vehicular Section Chief. The position requires graduation from an accredited law school, admission to practice law in Texas, and a minimum of five years of legal experience in litigation, jury trials, or closely related legal practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Represent the State of Texas and the citizens of Galveston County in criminal proceedings in the district and county courts.
  • Work as a team player in a collaborative environment.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinate prosecutor(s).
  • Interact and consult with law enforcement officers from suspect arrest through case disposition.
  • Interview and assist victims and witnesses through all case stages.
  • Communicate and negotiate effectively with the defense bar.
  • Evaluate cases to determine appropriate outcomes (plea agreement, diversion, dismissal, trial).
  • Maintain the felony docket of vehicular crimes, including intoxication, manslaughter, assault, failure to stop and render aid, and aggravated assault with deadly weapon.
  • Prepare cases for contested matters, including jury trials.
  • Present evidence and advocate before a jury or trier of fact.
  • Grow professionally through in‑house and formal training, mentoring from supervisors, and experience gained in contested hearings and trials.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in Texas.
  • Minimum five years of legal experience in litigation, jury trials, or closely related practice.
  • Strong communication skills, judgment, integrity, and adaptability to serve a diverse population.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary starts at $135,000, based on experience and assignment. Supplemental pay opportunities are available to attorneys. Full‑time employees receive a comprehensive group health plan and a defined retirement plan.
