Job summary

The role focuses on identifying hazards, analyzing risk, and ensuring safety across vehicle interfaces and mission events. You will develop and maintain hazard analyses and SSARs, support verification plans, review program documents, and collaborate with NASA and prime contractors to close hazard controls and verification evidence in support of flight

Qualifications

• This position requires US Citizenship due to sensitivity of customer information.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in system safety engineering for complex systems.
• Experience performing system safety hazard analyses and producing SSARs with hazard reports Defining hazard causes, controls, and verification/validation.
• Experience with safety/reliability methods such as FTA, FFA, and FMEA.
• Experience with safety verification planning, closure tracking, and evidence.
• Experience assessing safety impacts of configuration changes and non-compliances.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Provide system safety engineering support for SLS program integration through hazard identification and analysis.
• Classify risks by severity and likelihood and present results to SMA management during reviews.
• Prepare and assess System Safety Program Plans to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
• Review program documentation to ensure safety requirements are addressed.
• Participate in trade studies to ensure safety requirements and mitigations are identified and implemented.
• Develop and maintain safety analyses and supporting safety products (hazard analyses, hazard reports).
• Assess changes to program documentation to ensure safety requirements and hazard analyses are updated.
• Evaluate acceptance of Non-compliance Reports and Waivers/Deviations, documenting safety impacts.
• Support reliability and safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, FFA) and verify hazard controls.
• Track SSAR and TTSR comments, ensuring updates are traceable.
• Support verification plans and verification requirements, including DVOs.
• Develop operational hazard control verification evidence for the Safety Verification Board.
• Assess test and operating procedures for safety controls and verification requirements.
• Provide status reports to upper management during COFR, SORR, and FRR reviews.
• Contribute inputs for SMASS DRDs (MSRs, PEB inputs, etc.).
• Other duties as assigned.
