Job summary

General Motors' Warren Tech Center seeks a Compartment Integration Design Engineer to balance engineering requirements with design intent early in vehicle development. You will partner with Architecture, SMT, Performance, Human Factors, and Manufacturing to integrate innovative tech and advance design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of related engineering experience.
• Strong grasp of automotive design principles and engineering theory.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and across teams.
• Experience with CAD, including Unigraphics/NX.
• Understanding of engineering specifications.

Responsibilities

• Create, refine, and finalize engineering criteria with design and engineering partners.
• Lead development of integrated engineering solutions to resolve packaging issues.
• Use physical and mathematical models to evaluate alternatives and support design decisions.
• Apply DFSS methods to manage tradeoffs among cost, mass, timing, and assembly.
• Integrate regional/global requirements to support brand and market needs.
• Communicate with team members to resolve challenges in Expert Team meetings.
• Ensure packaging and studio models meet customer-facing targets including space and access.
• Lead cross-functional surface and integration meetings and drive issue resolution.
• Develop surface designs in digital models and NX modeling, and maintain modeling skills.
• Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights into packaging decisions.
• Develop space claims and package solutions to maximize space utilization.
