Job summary

Florence County is seeking a Vehicle Operator II to operate light and heavy vehicles to support county road construction and maintenance. This role involves loading, hauling materials, transporting debris to landfills, and assisting coworkers as needed.

Applicants must have a high school diploma with 1-2 years of heavy equipment experience, a valid South Carolina driver’s license, and a CDL (Class A preferred, Class B acceptable). The position includes maintenance duties and daily reporting.

Job Description

The Vehicle Operator II is responsible for operating light and heavy vehicles to accomplish and ensure efficient County road construction and maintenance.

Essential Functions

• Operates dump truck to load and haul needed materials to assigned job site.
• Transports debris from different job sites to landfill.
• Assists coworkers with hauling as needed.
• Submits daily production reports.
• Maintains roadways (cutting overhanging limbs) for assigned area.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of department vehicles and equipment.
• Completes vehicle and equipment maintenance reports, indicating when service was performed and needed repairs.
• Operates a variety of equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, excavator, trucks, etc.

Non-Essential Functions

• Transports equipment to job sites as needed.
• Assists with other projects as needed.
• Performs all other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

• Requires a high school education with one to two years of experience in heavy equipment operation or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Must have valid S.C. driver’s license.
• Must have a valid S.C. Commercial Driver’s License, Class A (preferred), or Class B.
